Maple Park Slots Owner Pleads Guilty

Michael Faber, 51, manager of D.J.’s Tavern in Maple Park, has been sentenced to 24 months’ probation, 100 hours of community service and fined $500 after pleading guilty to operating illegal slot machines. Faber pled guilty last week to three felonies: conspiracy to commit gambling, syndicated gambling, and conspiracy to keep a gambling place. The illegal slot machines were seized upon discovery.

He was not alone in running the slot machines however, 14 people were arrested in conjunction with the illegal gambling place. A State Police investigation discovered that there were illegal slot machines, a bookmaking operation, a spin-the-wheel lottery, as well as other types of illegal gambling. The local police chief was originally suspected of being a part of it as well, but he was later acquitted.

Only two remain that have not been sentenced at this point, as the others pleaded guilty to mostly misdemeanors. No one has received a prison sentence yet in conjunction with the illegal slot machines. David Weeks, the bar owner, received the harshest sentence which consisted of 30 weeks’ probation and $30,000 in fines – after he pled guilty to felony conspiracy to commit gambling.
