Hollywood Slot Machines Celebrate

When Hollywood Slot opened for business November 4th of last year, no one could predict how well it would do. The slot machine casino just celebrated its one year anniversary, and it is going stronger than ever. They have made more money in slot machine revenue than the experts predicted they would, and they have had less trouble than their detractors said they would.

When the slot machine casino got permission to open their doors many were fearful of what it would do to the area. They were afraid that the slot machines would bring with them increased crime, suicides, gambling addiction, as well as suicides. This has not been the case however. The slot machine casino has called the police out several times to their location, but it was for things like traffic violations and car accidents. The gambling addiction hotline said they have not received the increase in calls that that they thought they would have.

On the positive side, the casino has brought in more slot machine revenue than was predicted as well. The casino sees roughly 2,400 patrons a day who come in to play the slot machines that the casino has running. For the first year gamblers have lost $35.2 million in wagers. When the casino opened, the executive director of Maine’s Gambling Board said that they predicted each slot machine would bring in roughly $1,500 in wagers. He was off by about $2,000 as it seems that each slot machine is actually bringing in more like $3,500 instead. In “churned” money, which means money that is be over and over again in the slot machine itself, more than $520 in wagers has been placed.
