UKPCA Fighting for Rights

The UK Poker Clubs Association is taking on the UK government for equal treatment under the law, and changes in the Gambling Act 2005 that will make that a possibility. They have not been able to get the government to take them seriously, so they have hired a public relations firm to assist them in their quest to lobby for changes in the bill before it goes into effect this September.

The UKPCA is made up of thirteen different UK poker clubs and is the only organization of its kind in the UK. They have elite members such as the Western at Park Royal in West London, or the Gunshot in Clerkenwell, and the Full House in Reigate. These groups are opposed to the new act and have joined forces to work as a cohesive unit. They say they were afraid that by fighting individually they were not getting their voices heard, but now they are.

On the Association’s web site, they simply spell out what it is they desire from the government in light of the seventeen new casinos coming in. They say they just want fair and equitable treatment, and that by hiring a public relations firm and lobbyist they will be able to do it as a group. They feel that they stand a good chance of getting the changes taken care of.

They say that they are simply trying to regulate poker in the outside world that does not involve being located in an actual casino. They say that they want clubs that are recognized and that are safe for members to participate in. They also say that by having these recognized poker clubs they can charge membership fees that will then be put back into the club.
