Garrison WVU Presidential Finalist
Mike Garrison is the WVU Presidential Finalist, and many people have
been talking about his great record as Chief of Staff for West
Virginia Governor Bob Wise. However, what exactly is the main part of
that record that many people seem to be skipping over? Oh yes, he
brought slot machines to West Virginia.
Slot machines had been illegal in West Virginia for just about
forever, but it was Wise’s administration who got them legalized.
Thousands of slot machines now run the show in the state, and they
have Wise to thank for it.
Since the slot machines have become legal, anyone who wants to can
throw away their life and their life savings into the machines for
fun. Since there seems to be a plethora of the darn things, you can
pretty much go anywhere to play the slot machines.
It used to be that it took months, even years for most people to
develop an addiction to horse racing – but with slot machines, they
are finding that the addiction part of it is happening much sooner
than that. Many have referred to slot machines as the “crack cocaine”
of gambling, and I would venture to say that many in West Virginia
would agree with that statement.
The number of gambling addicts has increased since slot machines have
been legalized and small town America has been redefined in the state.
It is now all about the slot machines, and many are upset that Wise
brought them in, and by proxy so did Garrison. Garrison seems proud of
his record, and if he is, why isn’t he touting that he and Wise were
responsible for bringing in slot machines and making them a major
funder of education? Perhaps the WVU Board of Governors has forgotten
and Garrison doesn’t want to remind them?
