Will Dixon Get Slot Machines?
Magna Entertainment is hoping that the voters of Dixon approve the
horse racing complex that they wish to build in their fair town. They
have made a lot of promises to the residents of the town, and are
hoping that they see fit to build the $250 million complex so that
they can proceed.
The company has promised to handle all concerns that the residents
have brought up – things like traffic, giving money to the town,
improving the quality of life in the town, and making sure that they
provide quality, family entertainment. In what is somewhat of a switch
for the company, they are doing it without slot machines, which they
have at many of their complexes.
Although slot machines are currently not legal in Dixon, the company
says that they are taking steps to ensure the future ability of the
company to add them, and in the process they are looking into
“alternative gaming” at the track instead. Basically what that means
is that they are looking at bringing in slot machines, but they aren’t
called that.
The machines that they want to bring in resemble slot machines, but
are “instant racing machines.” They look like slot machines, and play
like slot machines, but are actually pari-mutuel games that customers
can bet on. The racing industry is lobbying to get them legalized at
racetracks in Northern California, for they say that they will bring
in much more income than the racing alone.
