Blair Defends Casinos

Tony Blair, Prime Minister of the UK, believes that the country needs to stay the course for casinos as they are going to bring in much needed revenue and investment to Britain. He says that the regeneration that they will bring to their cities is well worth the bringing in of so many casinos.

The UK has approved 17 slot machine casinos, and some are concerned as to what that will mean for their country. Blair says that those that would oppose the slot machine influx on the grounds that it is morally improper don’t have a clear grasp on what is going on in the country. He says that there are so many opportunities for gambling online in their country that it only makes sense to have land based casinos so that they get some of the revenue from the slot machines.

The government had wanted the House of Lords to approve their plan for the recommendations from the Casino Advisory Panel for the locations of the casinos. However, the House of Lords rejected the proposal. The problem is that many wanted to see the supercasino to go to Blackpool, but it was awarded to Manchester instead. Blair spoke to the House saying that he was “sympathetic” to the people of Blackpool, as he knows they wanted it as an attempt to turn around their town.

However, he says that those that are against any casinos at all now because the supercasino did not go to Blackpool are being discriminatory against the other locations that need a casino as well. He says that although he never wanted one supercasino, what’s done is done and they need to move forward from here.
