Gambling Always Biggest with Super Bowl

It is widely known that the biggest gambling day of the year is Super Bowl Sunday. People who don’t normally even play the lottery are willing to take their 50/50 chance that the team they love will win. However, this year it was just a little smaller than it has been in the past.

This past Super Bowl Sunday’s betting figures came in at $93.1 million, which is down from last year, where it brought in $94.5 million. If you include illegal betting with the legal wagering, it is estimated that those figures are actually more like $8 billion and $7 billion – so it looks as though legal betting may have been down, but illegal betting was up.

Many think it has to do with the fact that the government is cracking down on online gambling and sports betting – and therefore many turned to their cousin Charlie to place their bet with the guy at the bar – as opposed to using a more legal route to try and win their money. Local bookies found that overall, those that would admit it, their numbers were up this year from last.

Experts say that this is just the beginning of what they see as a disturbing trend – that gambling will start to go underground now that the government is trying to make people stop playing the slot machines and gambling online.
