Knapp Makes Deal

Daniel Knapp has been accused of illegal gambling back in May of 2006, when police raided his bar and discovered illegal slot machines. The bar, the Sandcastle Lounge, was told that they had to forfeit their slot machines to the police and stop all illegal gambling – but they refused to do so. Therefore, Knapp was facing criminal charges.

Prosecutors have just reached a deal with Knapp however, that will make a criminal trial unnecessary. Knapp had pleaded not guilty to the charges of illegal slot machines and gambling, so he was to appear at a pre-trial meeting in April. The Assistant Hampden County District Attorney Charles E. Dolan sent Knapp a letter however, trying to come to a deal.

Knapp has agreed to forfeit the slot machines as well as their contents, and has agreed to allow the police to search the premises for any other type of amusement device. If the police find any other slot machines, they are to be immediately surrendered to the police.

The District Attorney said that if there is any attempt by Knapp to break any of the conditions of the deal, criminal charges will be brought against him, and he could be looking at jail time.
