Gambling Nuns in Trouble

With the opening of a new gaming fair in Manila came all kinds of problems, most notably for the nuns in attendance. The Conservative Roman Catholic Bishops in the Philippines were outraged to see photographs and video tapes of nuns playing the slot machines and tables at the launch of the Gaming Expo in Manila.

The church says that they have a very strict policy on men of the cloth and nuns not being allowed to participate in gambling of any kind. The fact that these nuns were in their habits getting their photos taken while playing the slot machines enraged the bishops and formal charges are being filed against them.

The church says that the nuns in question could be facing sanctions from the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines if they are found to have sinned, and Archbishop Oscar Cruz said that he would be taking steps because of the sisters’ actions. He said the church is very clear on the fact that this was immoral.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. spokesman Edward King said that the church is making this more than it was. He said the sisters were just having some fun, and that they weren’t even playing with money. He says they did not trick the nuns into playing the slot machines, but that they really were innocent to the ways of the world.
