Casinos Worried About Nothing

The International Speedway Corporation (ISC) is trying to buy land to put in a NASCAR track near Commerce City or Aurora. How does this affect the casinos and their slot machines you might ask? It doesn’t, and that is the current problem.

The casinos are trying to push through a bill (Senate Bill 47) that says that the NASCAR track cannot add slot machines, nor can any NASCAR track bring them in. What is so ridiculous about the bill is that the NASCAR track has no intention of adding slot machines – ever. They know that car racing and slot machines are two different beasts, and never the twain shall meet.

Horse and dog racing tracks are increasingly being set up so that they can install slot machines as soon as they feel a need to, or they get permission from their state. However, NASCAR fans are there for one reason, and one reason only, the cars. They won’t spend their time playing slot machines when there are cars racing around a track.

Not only that - but the idea of passing a bill to protect the casinos from any outside competition is simply incredulous. People will play slot machines in between horse and dog races, but at NASCAR if the cars aren’t running people aren’t there. Besides the fact that it is not in the state, or the people’s best interest to start handing out bills that protect one industry over another. Next thing you know, the corner donut guy will want a bill that says no other donuts can be sold in the state.
