Beswick Making Plans

The Sportcity complex in Beswick will be the location of the UK’s first supercasino. It is located in Manchester, located near the City of Manchester stadium, and it will have 1,250 unlimited jackpot gaming machines. The slot machines are not the only draw however, they are also planning on having a training centre, a nightclub, hotel, restaurants, swimming pool, etc. It will also bring £265m of investment capital and 2,700 new jobs for the area.

Manchester City Council is currently taking bids for the running of the supercasino – and they are looking at Ladbrokes, Stanley Genting, Harrah’s, Sun International, Las Vegas Sands, Aspinalls, and Ranking Gala as possible operators. Many thought that Sol Kerzner would be a shoo-in for the position, but with the downsizing Manchester is rerunning the bidding process.

Manchester’s Council is excited that they have been chosen and they feel that the new development is going to be hugely successful for them. They say that not only will it help them economically in terms of revenue, but it will also help with the job situation. They believe that this casino is just the thing they need to revitalize the area.

Meanwhile, those that thought they were going to get the supercasino, such as Blackpool and Greenwich, are having a good look at their towns as they admit they didn’t have a backup plan – just in case they didn’t get the supercasino. Blackpool said that as they did not get the supercasino, at this point their days are numbered and they are looking at their eventual demise.
