Woodlands Working Slot Machine Angle
The Woodlands is running a no holds barred campaign to get slot
machines legalized at their Kansas City, Kansas track. They are hoping
that come the 26th that they will be able to offer slot machines at
their track. Wyandotte County is holding a special election for the
track, and if voters agree – they will be able to start bringing in
slot machines.
The track has been struggling for years to stay open, and if they get
the slot machines it could change the entire way that the track is
run. The slot machines will enable them to start offering higher horse
and dog racing purses, which will bring people back to the track that
have abandoned it.
If they don’t get the slot machines, they say that they will have to
close, for there is no way they can continue to operate without the
funds. Their general manager, Jayme LaRocca said that they think it
will pass, but they are being cautious until it actually happens. They
say that they are working hard to get people out to the special
election, but people don’t usually show up at these things in droves.
If they get the slot machines they will be offering 60 days of racing,
and will be able to offer more than $200,000 a day in purses. Without
the slot machines, they might be able to do $50,000 a day in purses
for 25 days. They say that Greyhound races could even reach $1,000 a
point.
