Online Poker Still Fighting for Repeal

Many poker sites gave up the ghost as soon as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was passed, banning all US citizens from participating on their sites, etc. Plus, many newbie players were scared off as well, leaving the veterans to try and find somewhere to play.

Many of them think that the UIGEA is truly a passing fancy, and that sooner or later it will be reversed and it will be back to business as usual. However, many more of them think that with the arrest of the NETeller founders that there is no where that the government won’t go to keep its law legal.

It is not as if online poker playing has gone away, experts say that it has simply driven it underground. Some sites like PartyPoker.com were explicit in not allowing US customers. However, PokerStars.com and FullTiltPoker.com will allow you if you can figure out how to get around the financing thing.

There are plenty who have. You can purchase pre-paid Visa or phone cards that are purchased through foreign middlemen, or set up offshore accounts or even apply for foreign credit cards. All of these will enable you to keep playing, although surely not all are legal. The government is going after anyone participating in any gambling scams that allow people to gamble illegally, and critics say that all the government has done is create a whole other criminal culture that did not previously exist.
