Wheeling Hopeful for Vote

Wheeling Island is already planning on a positive vote on table games on Saturday. They believe that Ohio residents will see how much good the table games will bring to their area, and are planning on expanding. They have already started their $8 million expansion project, because they know it will be a yes vote.

Wheeling is planning on adding 43 different casino style table games to their facility, spread out across 63 tables. They say that the additional games will mean additional jobs, and they will be looking at hiring as many as 500 more jobs.

The General Manager, Bob Marshall, said that they were originally looking to add 32 different games, but once they started doing more research, they found that there is a much larger demand for the games than originally thought.

When they surveyed West Virginians, they found that many said they would come to play the slot machines, but they would come more if there were table games. They also found that many of them that don’t currently come for the slot machines, would come if there were table games offered.

If the proposal is not approved, the track says that they will have to lay off somewhere around 300 employees, as they cannot afford to keep them all with the way business has been. They say that with the table games they will be looking at somewhere around $10 million minimum increase for their payroll.
