Table Games Suit Refused

Barry Bruce is the attorney for the West Virginia Family Foundation, and they tried to get the state Supreme Court to stop the vote on table games. The government had agreed to allow residents in four counties to vote on whether or not table games would join slot machines at their racetracks.

The court refused to hear the suit, and said that the ruling from the state government on the vote still stands. However, Bruce says that he was fully prepared to now take it to the federal level. He says that he thinks they have a real case based on how the constitution of the state was interpreted to allow the table games.

He says that he has several affidavits from the very people who helped with the amendment, and they agree that table games were not what the law was intended to allow. They say that the amendment made scratch off lottery legal, not table games, and that they are a far cry from what voters approved.

The racing industry says that they were never concerned about whether or not the case would get heard; they say that each step of the way lawyers talked about the case and read the amendment and they all agreed that table games could be legalized. However, other members of the foundation agree that they think table games will just beget more corruption, and that it was becoming increasingly apparent that votes had already been sold.
