Military Gambling Overseas
As of late the military has come under fire for allowing slot machines
and gambling overseas. They say that they use the money taken from the
gamblers to pay for entertainment and shows for the soldiers while
they are abroad. However, what they are doing is getting a whole lot
of soldiers addicted to gambling.
The military is profiting off of our service men and women, as they
are trapped over there with nothing to do but fight for their lives.
In between the boredom and the terror, they are looking for an escape,
and the military is none too happy to oblige.
The military makes somewhere around $127 million a year off of our
soldiers, and this isn’t the first time. In a recent special by Paula
Zahn on CNN, a Professor John Kindt says that the military used to
have slot machines and got rid of them in the ‘60’s because of all the
soldiers that had gotten addicted to them. He says that yes the
military is using them to make money, but at the small amount they
bring in compared to what the military’s budget it, it is “peanuts” to
them.
However, the story goes on to talk about soldiers like Carrie Walsh’s
husband who cannot handle the slot machine addiction and eventually
kill themselves. She says her husband battled the slot machine
addiction that he picked up in the military, but could never shake it.
This is the sad end that is awaiting many of our soldiers overseas if
we don’t do something about it.
