Final Showdown for Dog Racing Opponents

Greyhound racing opponents are gearing up for what they are calling the showdown to end all showdowns. They are trying to get greyhound racing banned in the state, and at the same time head off an attempt to bring in slot machines to boost revenue.

They know that the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe has gotten federal recognition, and because of that they are now looking to open a casino in the state. However, the state treasurer has said that he thinks it is a good idea to beat them to the punch, and either bring in their own casino or allow slot machines at their racing tracks.

The greyhound lovers know that once slot machines are at the track they will stand no chance of getting the dogs out of there. They believe that the animals are treated cruelly and they want the sport eliminated. Those that support racing say that if they ban greyhound racing they will eliminate a sport that not only people enjoy, but thousands of people make a living at.

Supporters of the tracks want the slot machines brought in to boost revenue for the track so that they can continue to enjoy the dogs racing. They say that the dogs are not treated inhumanely, and that they are running – which is what all dogs love to do. They also say that if they remove the industry, where are all of the people who currently work in it going to go, and how will they survive?
