Some Casinos Increasing Comps in A.C.
Comps, also known as promotional allowances and expenses that the
casinos use to bring in customers, are on the rise. Comps can be
anything from a free meal to a free room, with the casino picking up
the tab. With Pennsylvania’s slot machines just a hop, skip, and a
jump from Atlantic City, the seaside city has found it necessary to
change their ways.
It is no surprise that the AC casinos’ revenues would be down, since
many of their customers will not be driving from PA any longer, as
they can play the slot machines there just as well as they can by the
ocean. However, if they want table games, they still have to come.
Slot machine revenues are down, but table games revenues are up,
showing you that those that are coming are coming for the games.
So some of the casinos have chosen to reduce the number of comps that
they offer to make up for the lost revenues, but some have chosen to
increase the number of comps they have instead. They know that many of
their customers will continue to come if they get free stuff, so they
have stepped up the number of comps that they are offering.
Comps were up by more than 2.1% for the month of March, which shows
that those that are offering them are actually offering much more than
before because not all of the casinos are offering them. The increase
is thus spread over a smaller amount of casinos, which means big
bonuses for their players.
