State Not Really Regulating Casinos
It is not the state’s job to regulate tribal casinos, which is
important to remember when looking at state budgets. Some are
questioning the amount of money that the state has put aside for
regulating them, as it is not much more than they are spending right
now regulating the dog track.
The Wisconsin State Journal reported that the state has budgeted less
than $1.7 million for the year. However, that amount is only about
$250,000 more than they currently spend on their one dog track.
State officials are quick to point out that tribal casinos are
responsible for themselves as they are their own governments, and that
the federal government keeps an eye on them as well. It is really not
up to the state to do more than just basically keep an eye on them.
However, they are also quick to say that there is no reason for
gamblers to be worried, as the slot machines at the tribal casinos are
safe to play and that they don’t have any problems with them.
Critics however say that the state needs to have a firmer hold on the
tribal gaming industry, as they say that the state has not kept up
with the amount of growth that has been going on. They say that the
amount of bureaucracy that goes on is getting in the way of proper
regulation.
