Budget Impasse Could Affect Slot
Machines
Pennsylvania has gotten itself into a pickle with its budget, and now
it looks like they may not have one. If the government does not pass a
budget, it will affect the state employees, including casino
employees.
The government has not passed a budget yet, and if this continues,
roughly 26,000 state employees would be temporarily out of jobs. The
employees would have to be furloughed from all unnecessary state jobs.
This means that your state parks, museums, etc. would all be unmanned,
and thus would have to close until the state passes a budget. This
also means that the slot machines would not be able to run, as the
Revenue Department employees are not considered necessary personnel.
Without those employees, the slot machines are not allowed to be
operational.
The House approved the governor’s budget, but unfortunately there is
no money to pay for it. The onus is now on the Senate to work with the
governor and the House to see if they can come to an agreement, and it
must be completed in a timely manner, or thousands of employees will
be out of work.
The budget must be passed soon, for as of June 30th the state cannot
spend any money. Therefore, they have less than a month before
thousands of personnel are on furlough, and slot machines stop running
– causing the state to lose out on additional revenue.
