StopSlotsMaryland is Back in Business

StopSlotsMaryland has announced that they are mobilizing again to take on the attempts by the government to legalize slot machines. They say that lawmakers have been getting used to the idea of legalizing the slot machines, and they are coming out to make sure that does not happen.

State Comptroller Peter Franchot has joined the group, and asserts that he has been trying to tell the government that legalizing slot machines is a bad idea, but that they are not listening. The group had taken a one year break, but have gotten back together as it is coming budget time again.

The group knows that with the budget being short by $1.5 billion, that lawmakers will again turn to the idea of legalizing slot machines, as they think that will solve their problems. The group wants to keep slot machines out of the mix because they know that they will only cause more problems for the state.

Franchot said that slot machines and gambling prey on the poor, and that to legalize them would be doing the people of Maryland a great disservice. The governor has said that he supports limited slot machines at racetracks, as he believes that they need the slot machines to stay competitive.
