Opponents Say They Are Slot Machines

New gambling machines that use horse races to bring in profits are under fire by the Ohio Roundtable, which says the machines are nothing more than slot machines and they should be illegal. There is currently a bill sitting in the House that would legalize the machines, but the group says that Ohio voters have been very clear that they don’t want slot machines in their state.

They are running radio spots that are targeting top legislative officials such as Rep. Chris Redfern, House Speaker Jon Husted, and Rep. Dan Stewart. They are upset that the Senate chose to approve the machines, and say that the House needs to stand up for what is right and for what the people want, not the government.

The group was behind last year’s successful push to keep slot machines out of the racetracks, and they say that no matter whether the games are skill based or just plain slot machines, the voters said no to expanded gambling, and this goes against that.

They say that the legalization of this bill would allow the Eastern Shawnee Tribe to bring in slot machines if they get federal recognition at their reservation in Lima. They would be able to offer the same things that are offered elsewhere in the state, and these machines can be construed as slot machines.
