State Agents Don’t Miss a Trick
Agents with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s Bureau of
Investigations and Enforcement are at every casino in Pennsylvania.
They keep track of everything leading up to the opening of the casino,
and follow it all the way through until the slot machines are up and
running. Even then, they still don’t leave.
They are aware of everything that goes on inside that casino, day and
night. They have cameras all over the place that see every inch of the
casino; they know when a slot machine hits, and when it seems that not
enough people are winning. They make sure that you aren’t getting
ripped off by tainted slot machines, and they make sure that you
aren’t doing the ripping off.
Agents spend their time walking up and down the rows of slot machines,
keeping an ever watchful eye on everything that goes on. You have
probably seen them; they are the guys in suits.
The agents have the responsibility of following all the rules and
regulations of the casino, and making sure that the casino follows
them as well. The agents meet with their supervisors and the deputy
director of the Bureau of Investigations, Tom Sturgeon, on a regular
basis to ensure that they are following the letter of the law.
They are responsible for enforcing all laws and regulations, as well
as making sure that underagers don’t make it onto the slot machine
floor. They are also responsible for ensuring that the “exclusion
list” is enforced – although no one is on it yet, someday there will
be names. They have to make sure that if someone tries to get in, that
they are there to stop them. They also make sure that the casino
follows proper auditing procedures, and keep a record of any
violations that the casino has so that they can fine them accordingly.
