Online Casinos Rise 13%
Over the summer with kids off from school, the internet sees a large
increase in the number of users on the internet and there are
companies that track who goes where and what they are looking at. They
track the number of hits each site gets and what category it falls
into, and then they publish the results.
This time around they found that most people were going to Internet
music and radio providers, gay/lesbian sites, and in third place –
online gambling. The internet information marketer comScore Inc. found
that online casino activity had risen by 13% last month.
The company uses a program called Media Metrix, and it showed that
more than 12.4 million unique visitors checked into some sort of
online gambling. Whether it was to play slot machines, poker,
baccarat, or even just to get information, the number of people
accessing the internet gambling sites is up.
Experts think that the rise in the interest of online gambling has a
lot to do with the popularity of the Las Vegas World Series of Poker
tournament, and the link that they have with PokerStars.com – as they
did have the largest increase in growth in the category for last
month.
Online gaming in the younger age group also increased, which can be
attributed to the number of kids home and playing on their computers.
They are linked to non gambling sites, but are listed with normal
gaming sites. IGN Entertainment was up 17% to 10.4 million visitors
for gaming growth subcategory – with Disney Games taking the top
spots.
