Paddy Power Goes Spanish

PaddyPower.com has announced that they have been looking at expanding into several opportunities in a number of European countries including Italy, Poland and Portugal. It seems that the online betting group has chosen to augment its German language gambling website with one in Spanish.

This site will differ from their UK, Ireland and Germany sites however, as it will focus on football as opposed to horse racing. The Irish bookmaker is planning on having the new site up and running by the time the Spanish football season starts, which would be at the beginning of September. They have a Spanish speaking staff as well so they can handle any inquiries, and they are looking at opening betting shops in the vicinity of Madrid.

They have more than half of the Euro 45 million profit coming from online operations, and they don’t expect it to slow down before the end of the year. They have found that so far they are up 26% this year. They are planning on taking some of the lucrative market that is going on over in Europe, which has seen a jump since the US passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act last year.

William Hill is not alone in the quest to tap the market, as many large bookmakers have been trying to get their slice of the pie as well. Both Betbull and William Hill have signed joint venture agreements, and more are expected.
