Absolute Poker Announces Winner

Absolute Poker was pleased to announce that one of their players, a person who goes by the handle of CALVINHOBBES walked away with a nice chunk of almost half a million dollars from playing Texas Hold’em. All that is really known about the winner is that they are obviously a fan of the old Calvin and Hobbes comic strip, but other than that, really just that they are a winner.

SVP for Absolute Poker, David Clainer, said that they have had more than a million hands dealt since the last winner on July 3rd, so they knew that it was coming time for another winner. Clainer says that people “flooded” their site for a chance to lose, because the loser of the Bad Beat Jackpot is the winner of a share of the $464,652.03.

The way the game works, if you are holding a hand that has four 8’s or better and they lose, they hit the jackpot. $0.50 is collected from qualifying hands at the jackpot tables, and that is how the jackpot grows. CALVINHOBBES lost quad Aces to a Royal Flush during Texas Hold’em and thus he walked away with the cash.

The previous jackpot had been $297,287.63, so this jackpot was significantly higher. CALVINHOBBES will get $162,628.21 and the other players in the hand will split the exact same amount. The pot winner will take the lion’s share of $81,000 and the others will take a little more than $20,000 a piece.
