Table Games Spur Jobs
The Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort is hiring more than 400
more positions at their track since voters have approved table games
at the June 30th special election. They held the first of several job
fairs this week, and by 4 pm almost 500 people had come through the
doors in search of employment.
Their public relations director, Tamara Cronin said that it was a
reflection of how badly jobs were needed in the county, and that this
was just the first job fair. Cronin said they have signed about 140
people thus far, and will be looking for dealers as well as service
personnel.
She said that they are looking for people from the Tri-State area and
beyond, but current resort employees have first pick of the jobs. Rate
of pay is supposed to be on average $35,000 a year, and many of their
current employees are interested in moving into the higher paying
positions. Second preference for the positions will go to Hancock
County residents, and they think that it will go a long way to
reducing unemployment in the county.
Finally, they will take anyone outside of those stipulations and
applications will be accepted from anyone seeking employment with
them. They say that those that were born and raised in Hancock County
but left to seek employment will be welcomed back as well.
The first set of classes for dealers will start July 16th through West
Virginia Northern Community College, and will be held at Mountaineer.
Those that already work for the resort will have their tuition paid
for them.
