Spokane’s Slot Machine Compact
The Spokane Tribe of Indians recently signed a slot machine compact
with the state of Washington that has all but been finalized. The slot
machine compact will give the tribe many more freedoms than the other
tribes in the state, so they will undoubtedly be looking for updates
for their own slot machine compacts in the near future.
However, in the meantime, the tribe will be able to offer 4,700 slot
machines at each of up to five casinos – which is the same as everyone
else. However, the Spokane’s will be able to offer better stakes at
some of the tables, as well as being able to operate cash or cashless
slot machines which are currently illegal in the state.
The government is glad that a deal was reached, as they feel the slot
machine revenue will help out both the tribe and the state. There are
currently 25 Indian casinos in the state – but the Spokane’s are the
last one running a slot machine casino without a compact. The existing
tribes are bringing in $1.2 billion currently, and now that it looks
as though there will be an agreement with the Spokane’s it can only be
assumed that their slot machine revenue will increase that amount.
The slot machine and gambling deal was agreed upon between the Spokane
Tribe, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the Washington State
Gambling Commission. It will be finalized when everyone agrees upon
it.
