Indiana Pushing for Slot Machines

Indiana’s pari-mutuel tracks have struggled to stay afloat for some time now, and have constantly insisted that bringing in slot machines would save them and the many jobs that the tracks provide. However, residents of Indiana think that the tracks should be able to survive without the slot machines, or they should just close. Many do not think that bringing in slot machines to support a dying industry is the way to go.

However, it is not just about supporting the tracks. The amount of slot machine revenue that could come in from the tracks is astounding. The state would literally see millions of dollars come from the slot machines, which would yes, help the tracks, but it would also help the state.

The odds of a slot machine bill passing the General Assembly are still too close to call, only because they really are set on opposite lines. Each year the tracks try to legalize the slot machines, and every year they are voted down, so they figure it is that time again to try. However, this year the slot machine bill is expected to get heard before the House Public Policy Committee which is a coup in and of itself.
