Slot Machine Players

When it comes to slot machines, everyone wants to get their piece of the pie – and Massachusetts is no different. Now that the budget seems to be in major trouble, a renewed interest in slot machines is afoot. For roughly ten years, various groups have wanted to see the slot machines legalized, it was just a matter of time as to when they would really start pushing for it.

Governor Deval Patrick is one of those who seem to want slot machines legalized. This in itself is particularly interesting, as Patrick has remained anti-slot machine throughout most of his campaign. He has said that he didn’t feel that the slot machines were a good idea, but now he says that perhaps he wasn’t talking to the right people. He says he wants to talk to some slot machine proponents before making up his mind.

He has also said that he thinks the slot machines are the way to balance the state budget – although many disagree. Many say that since slot machines are not a steady source of income, they cannot be considered dependable so they cannot be counted as an option. The Indian tribes of Mass. would like to see slot machines legalized, as would many lobbyists and legislators. However, what remains to be seen is if the slot machines will be a good fit for Mass., or if by adding them in to fix the budget they end up with a whole host of other problems.
