Pojoaque About to Get Slot Machines

The Buffalo Thunder Resort, as it is to be called, will bring slot machine to Pojoaque. Hilton Hotels Corporation has entered into an agreement with the Pueblo of Pojoaque to bring in a slot machine casino and resort, with the Pueblos owning it, but Hilton running it. The groundbreaking for the new complex will be this month.

The slot machine casino and resort will have a golf course, a Homewood Suites by Hilton, a luxury spa, restaurants, entertainment venues, etc. Construction on the slot machine casino is expected to be finished in the fall of 2008. Governor Rivera is most happy with the plan, and said that the name of the resort was chosen from Native American words for “spiritual strength.”

The resort and slot machine casino is expected to bring in hundreds of jobs, and Hilton will be handling the entire employee training that needs to be done. The tribe chose to go with Hilton as they felt that they were a well recognized name in the resort industry. The casino will have 1,200 slot machines, 25 table games, as well as a poker room and simulcast wagering. The resort will also be environmentally pleasing with their own water recycling.
