Miller Wants Slot Machines Not Taxes
Senate President Thomas V. Mike
Miller finds himself on the defensive these days, finding a need to
fight for no new taxes – which is exactly what his constituents want
him to do. However, without new taxes, they need another money maker –
and here is where slot machines come in.
Miller thinks that the government has a responsibility to cut spending
and to create new forms of revenue – and he thinks that slot machines,
not raising taxes are the way to do that. He says that their residents
are so over taxed as it is, adding more taxes will only increase an
already suffocating burden. But if you legalize slot machines,
everyone wins.
The state has a $30 billion budget that they cannot meet, and the
consensus from other states that have already legalized slot machines
is that they will bring in billions in revenue every year. Miller says
that the number of people leaving the state to go play slot machines
somewhere else is astounding – and that they should be keeping the
money in state instead.
Miller has been trying to get slot machines legalized for some time
now, and would like to see the governor step in to see if he could
assist with the process. He says that Governor O’Malley could make a
difference in the fight.
