It’s Mardi Gras Slot Machines

The residents of Hallandale Beach, Florida, either have something to celebrate or a reason to be incredibly depressed – the slot machines are running. Last Thursday, the Mardi Gras Casino at Hollywood Greyhound Track opened its first Vegas style slot machines to a nice sized crowd.

The slot machine casino has been trying to get its doors open ever since the machines were legalized in Broward County. They failed their first test, which is quite common, and were not allowed to have their slot machines running as quickly as they wanted to. However, they have since passed and are open for business.

The casino will have almost 1,200 slot machines – including three of the biggies: Monte Carlo, Monopoly, and Wheel of Fortune. After seven long years of money problems, slot machine issues, government stalling, Mardi Gras is ready for some action. They have 850 employees at the slot machine casino and are planning on bringing in another 150 for future additions to the casino.

The state thinks that they will get roughly $200 million in slot machine revenue from all four casinos in Broward. However, Dan Adkins, COO at Hollywood Greyhound Racetrack thinks that it will be $500 million in slot machine revenue if not more.
