Macau’s Slot Machines Outperform Vegas’

Macau has officially taken the top slot as the “world’s biggest gambling market” with their slot machines and gambling taking over Las Vegas. It turns out that the slot machine and gambling revenues for Macau were $6.95 billion, as opposed to Vegas’ $6.5 billion for last year. Some think the Vegas slot machine operators that are coming in to Macau have a lot to do with that.

Some of Vegas’ biggest slot machine and gambling companies – like the Sands and Wynn Resorts – have come to Macau. Macau now has the Sands Macau and Wynn Macau – both of which are offshoots of their Vegas counterparts. With these casino giants come thousands more slot machines into the city of Macau.

The Gaming Inspection and Co-Ordination Bureau reports that Macau currently has 2,762 slot machines; and they expect that number to jump next year. They believe that the number of slot machines and casino gambling will drastically increase over the next three years. With Macau putting another $20 billion into the city and the Cotai Strip, they see gambling revenue well surpassing the $7 billion mark by 2010.

The numbers in Macau simply show how much slot machines and gambling have grown in the area, since Las Vegas used to be considered the largest gambling area in the world. However, Macau is still not higher than the numbers for all of Nevada, which brought in $10.66 billion in slot machine and gaming revenue in 2005. Experts believe that there is no reason that Macau couldn’t surpass those figures as well.
