Internet Gambling Prohibition Act Explained
Online slot machine gambling has
been around since 1995, but there are more troubles with it now then
there ever have been. Legislators have tried to ban and/or regulate
the online gaming industry in an attempt to keep it from growing as
large as it has already. One common misconception is that it is
illegal to play the slot machines, etc. online. This is not true,
although new legislation makes it virtually impossible to do so.
The new legislation will actually
create issues in as far as how you pay for your slot machine playing,
because they are going to hit the financial sector of the business
instead. The Internet Gambling Protection Act (H.R. 4777) will
prohibit slot machine and gambling sites from accepting payment from
financial institutions. This seems simple enough, except for the fact
that most if not all online gambling sites are offshore, and therefore
outside of the jurisdiction of any law that the United States might
pass.
Any online gambling company that is
located in the United States that has customers wanting to play their
slot machines will be affected by the ruling, as they will not be able
to accept compensation from any financial institution. Basically what
happens with a law like this, it doesn’t stop the online gaming or the
playing of slot machines through the internet, all it does is force
those online gaming companies to take their businesses out of the US.
