Big Bucks from PA Slot Machines

Those who said that slot machines in Pennsylvania would bring nothing but trouble obviously couldn’t predict the amount of money that they would bring in. Between the two slot machine casinos already opened in the state – Philadelphia Park and the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs – the state has already seen millions from the slot machines. The two slot machine casinos have brought in more money than most people could have predicted they would.

Gamblers wagered a total of $97 million on 3,175 slot machines in the first week of 2007 alone. Those numbers, when broken down, come out to $30,551 per slot machine per week. Break it down even further and you have $4,364 per slot machine per day. In the seven weeks that slot machines were running in 2006 - $330.3 million was wagered with $298.7 paid out.

Philadelphia Park led the slot machine revenue numbers with $62.1 million in the first week of 2007 and payouts of $56.8 million. Mohegan Sun’s slot machine revenue was almost half – with $34.8 million and paying out $31.3 million. The Meadows Racetrack and Casino is opening their temporary slot machine parlor this spring, with a permanent one opening in 2009.
