Slot Machine Appeals
With the Pennsylvania Gaming Board making their announcement of the
winners of the slot machine licenses, there is now an opening to
challenge those decisions. There is a 30 day period where those that
did not win, or those that do not want to see slot machines come to
their town, get the opportunity of challenging their opponents.
Philadelphia is one area that is going to be hotly contested, as there
were many companies vying for the slot machine licenses. There are
also many who did not want to see the slot machines come into Philly
at all – never mind two casinos on the waterfront. Those companies
that were awarded the slot licenses know that they will now have a
legal battle ahead of them to keep them.
Both companies that won the slot machine license have already taken
steps to ensure that they would be able to do battle should it come to
that. Both have put together top legal teams as well as giving
themselves a hefty budget to work with. With the opinions being
released, now those that oppose them have something to sink their
teeth into – things that they can now dispute by appealing the slot
machine licenses.
SugarHouse has retained Cozen O’Connor and Foxwoods has signed
Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell & Hippel L.L.P. – and both casinos believe
that they are ready for any attempts to overturn the board’s
decisions.
