Jefferson County Would Benefit Most

With the House of Delegates having approved the table games bill, people are now starting to look at what part of the revenue they will get. The Eastern Panhandle will get the most of the money, which is exactly what many people want to see because they are in such dire economic need. However, not everyone is happy about the way it has broken itself down.

The Kanawha County town of Nitro is less than thrilled at the amount of money that it looks like they will get. They assumed that since they would be hosting the racetrack and hence the table games, that they would get a larger chunk. The Tri-State Greyhound Park and Gaming Center is located in their city. However, it looks as though they will only be getting a little more than $65,000 whereas Charleston will be getting more than $628,000.

Because of the way they are breaking up the payouts, is helps to be a larger city because those with bigger populations will get more. The mayor of Nitro says that the amount they are getting is ridiculous, and that it won’t even cover the emergency services the city currently provides to the track. He wants to see Nitro get what Charleston is getting since they are doing all of the work.

The mayor says that he is planning on meeting with other city officials about the need to amend the table games bill, so that the host cities get a larger share of the revenue from the games.
