Foxwoods and Sands Race to the Finish
The Foxwoods casino claims that they are ahead of the Sands – but the
Sands says they aren’t. Both are constructing slot machine casinos,
but they are vying for position in the race to see who will be next to
last. By the time they are completed, all of the racetracks will have
their slot machines, and all of the other stand alone casinos will be
open for business.
Foxwoods says that they are moving faster than the Sands, although
many in the state believe that they will be the last to open. Foxwoods
says not true as they are building on 25 open acres and Bethlehem
still has demolition to do before they can start building their slot
machine casino.
Sands says that they also have that going for them in that many of
their buildings are already completed, but will need to be retrofitted
to hold the $560 million casino and entertainment complex. Some of
their buildings will just need to be knocked down as they won’t be any
use to the company at all.
Mount Airy is excited because they will be the first stand alone
casino to open. They were so confident that they would be awarded the
slot machine license that they thought they would start construction
ahead of time – which they did. Because of that move they are already
more than half way there – and will have 2,500 of their eventual 3,000
slot machines on line before the end of the year.
