Diamond Dust Reopens, Then Closes

The Diamond Dust Game Room opened and quickly closed again due to illegal use of slot machines. The Diamond Dust had been forced to close because of the fact that they were using slot machines on the premises, which is illegal in the state of Florida. So they brought in what they claimed were new video slot machines, but the State Attorney General made them close up shop again.

The company’s attorney said that he is trying to get a meeting with the state’s prosecutor so as to see if they truly understand the nature of the Diamond Dust’s business. They claim that they are only an amusement center, not a slot machine casino. The state sees it differently. The state says that if you have a machine that takes coins and offers a payout, and there is no skill involved, then it is a slot machine and it is illegal.

The games must involve some sort of skill, the player has to be able to change or affect the outcome of the game - otherwise it is nothing more than a glorified slot machine. The fact that the company got rid of the old slot machines and basically brought in new ones that had the same problem, does not change the fact that they are considered illegal.

The AG said that the company had already been warned about those types of machines, and that they were considered illegal slot machines. They sent them a letter stating that criminal charges would be brought against them if they continued to do business running those slot machines – so the company closed its doors once again.
