Creighton Gets Slot Machine Committee Job
Four term Republican Rep. Tom Creighton has been named to the House
Gaming Oversight Committee for the state of Pennsylvania. It is their
job to review any and all bills that will affect slot machines within
the state, as well as the fourteen casinos that have been approved.
The new committee will look over all bills, and they will need to pass
muster before they can be considered. They believe that there are
things that should have been asked earlier in the process, things that
should have been covered before so that they will not become an issue
later on.
One of the examples they use is the idea that it is ok to give free
drinks to those playing the slot machines. Creighton says that what
they didn’t ask is how it would be handled when 18 year olds are in
the casinos.
The committee cannot change laws that have already gone into effect,
but they will keep an eye on any future laws as they impact the slot
machines and the state. Creighton actually voted against the
legalization of slot machines, so it will probably be tough to get
things past him that he does not approve of. The group is responsible
for examining and voting on all bills before they move to the House
for a vote.
