AC Slot Machine Revenue Drop

Atlantic City has dominated the East Coast market for slot machine revenue since 1978, but the times they are a changin’. For the first time in decades, Atlantic City has seen a change in their slot machine and gaming revenue – and it isn’t good. Their first monthly revenue figures for 2007 are down, a trend they are not used to seeing.

Because their slot machine numbers have dropped, many in the city are starting to worry that it is just the beginning of a very disturbing trend. Because of the competition they have been facing from other states surrounding them that have decided to add slot machines, AC is going to have to figure out something to keep their share of the revenue increasing.

Unfortunately, it isn’t just the other slot machine competition that they have to worry about – they also have to worry about the fact that one of their casinos have closed and the city council is trying to make all of the casinos smoke free. If they succeed in making them smoke free, many know that their slot machine revenue will drop some more – as players will simply go to a Pennsylvania casino instead to play the slot machines and be able to smoke as well.

The state needs that slot machine revenue for many reasons, and if it continues to drop New Jersey will have to start looking into other forms of revenue to make up for that which they are now losing to other states. All they can do is wait and see where their slot machine revenue numbers go from here.
