Could Slot Machines Use Table Games?

Now that Pennsylvania has opened its first slot machine casino and is looking to open another one shortly, talk has already turned to how they can start to expand gambling. Many within the state acknowledge that they do not know fully the impact of adding slot machines to the state will have on them, but they are aware that if they want to compete with neighboring states that also have slot machines they have to offer more.

State Representative H. William DeWeese is trying to push through new legislation that would add table games to the existing slot machines. As he is looking to become the next house speaker in January, he may get his wish. When asked, his aides deny that table games would be more harmful to the state than the existing slot machines are.

They say that by adding table games to the existing slot machine venues that Pennsylvania would be able to compete with neighboring states, and it would generate even more income for the state. Instead of just relying on slot machine revenue, millions more could be brought in for property tax cuts – which are why the slot machines were legalized in the first place.

Many think that they need the table games revenue to support the slot machine revenue. They think that there just is too much competition from neighboring states to not offer more than just slot machine fare. They say that by adding slot machines to the state they made a great move for the state, and by adding table games they will be further solidifying their place in the gambling industry.
