Machine Relocation
Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center in Wheeling, West Virginia
is moving its slot machines out of the Ohio River flood plain. They
are going to relocate their slot machines and expand with an $8
million project. The new slot machine casino will be 16,000 square
feet, and they are planning on opening May 2007.
They are planning on starting on the slot machine casino in the next
two weeks, with groundbreaking set for this Wednesday. The City
Planning Commission has already approved the plans for the new slot
machine casino, as well as the new parking garage, kitchen space and a
covered, heated walkway for their charter bus guests. They will be
relocating 390 of their 2,400 slot machines.
They will need to hire more people to staff the larger slot machine
casino – they already employ over 950. This will be the slot machine
casino’s third major expansion in the past three years. The racetrack
is owned and operated by Wheeling Island Gaming, Inc. which is a
subsidy of Sportsystems Corp.
