Philadelphia Has
More Slot Machines
With Pennsylvania allowing slot machines to come in, there will be
gaming across the state. However, no area will have as many slot
machines as Philadelphia. They will have two slot machine casinos
built in the City of Brotherly Love, which will make them the largest
city in the country with casinos. It seems only fitting that the city
where our forefathers gambled with their fortunes should be the
largest place for others to gamble on slot machines.
Slot machine parlors here are just adding to the amount of gambling
that has been taking the mid-Atlantic by storm. New Jersey, New York,
Connecticut – all have slot machine casinos. Pennsylvania and Delaware
have slot machines at racetracks, and Delaware is looking to bring in
slot machines as well. Philadelphia seems an unlikely place to have
slot machines however, as the area really is founded by Quakers – and
they believe that gambling and slot machines are immoral.
However, Governor Rendell does not care. He wants to see slot machines
and casinos just like you would see in Las Vegas or Atlantic City. The
mayor of Philadelphia is just as if not more excited than the governor
to see the slot machine casinos come to his town. They are finishing
up a convention center expansion in 2009 – and he thinks that not only
are slot machines going to draw in the conventions, but the
eventuality of table games being legalized as well. "If you want
people to live in your city, to live in your region, to bring their
conventions here, to bring their bodies here for vacation, you've got
to have something for them," he says. "I want them to look like [slot
machine] casinos, I want them to feel like [slot machine] casinos. A
real [slot machine] casino with all of the opulence. I want to see a
little neon."
