Pequots Try for More Slot Machines

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is already the owner of the world’s largest slot machine casino. They own the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut, and are looking to open another slot machine casino in Philadelphia. The tribe would like to open their slot machine casino along the Delaware riverfront in Philadelphia. The tribe is planning on opening a $560 million slot machine palace there.

Foxwoods Development Co. is currently trying to win one of the two slot machine licenses that Pennsylvania is going to award on December 20th. This would be the first slot machine casino for the tribe outside of Connecticut, and solidify its status as a force to be reckoned with in the slot machine and gambling industry.

As there are five different companies vying for two slot machine licenses in the city of Philadelphia, it will be a hard road for the Pequots. Since Foxwoods already has quite a reputation, many do not want a slot machine casino of that size in South Philadelphia. ''It's certainly the next step for this tribe,'' Foxwoods CEO William Sherlock said. ''Philadelphia could be that first step for a plethora of [slot machine] projects throughout the United States.''
