Patrick Picks Slot Machine Rival

Governor-elect Deval Patrick has chosen someone the pro slot machine people could have done without – state Rep. Daniel E. Bosley. Bosley has always been a staunch opponent of the slot machines, so Patrick’s choice has some wondering where he stands. Patrick had promised to keep an open mind in regards to slot machines and gambling, but it looks like that might not be the case.

Bosley is the fiercest opponent of slot machines that the House of Representatives has seen in a long time, and now he is going to be Patrick’s Chief Economic Development Advisor. Slot machine proponents were hoping that with a new governor coming in things might get a little easier for them in the Legislature – seems that is not to be the case.

Although, Bosley said that although he is still strongly against slot machines and is planning to express those views to Patrick, he feels that Patrick should keep “an open mind” when it comes to slot machines and make his own conclusions. "He has to listen to the arguments and explore the issues and then figure it out on his own," Bosley said.

It is not clear if slot machines and expanded gambling are going to be Bosley’s responsibility or not. So far much of the discussion has involved slot machines and not so much casinos. However, groups are still pushing to legalize the slot machines, even if they can’t get casinos.
