Lottery Beats Slot Machines

As any casino owner will tell you, slot machines are their cash cow. No other form of gambling can beat the revenue that your slot machines will bring in. However, in Ontario, that seems to not be the case with their slot machines. In fact, the lottery beat the slot machines for most revenue.

The Ontario government has found that their lottery has brought in more gambling revenue than casinos and slot machines at racetracks. The lottery sold $2.3 billion in tickets in 2004-05. The casinos brought in almost $1.6 billion in revenues, and the slot machines brought in $1.9 billion. However, the province still wins with $6.2 billion in gaming revenues. That amount is reduced by operating expenses – but the province still got $1.96 billion in lottery and slot machine revenues.

Most of the profits from the lotteries, charity casinos, and slot machines will go to hospitals, amateur athletes, problem gamblers, etc. However, the slot machine casino profits will go into the government’s pockets to the tune of $334 million.
