England Bans Smoking at Slot Machines

England is passing a law that will not allow smoking in any public places on July 1st – which will affect many people including those who like to play the slot machines. Bingo parlors are full of people who like to play the slot machines and smoke while they are doing it. The new ban would not allow them to continue to play the slot machines while smoking.

Bingo parlors used to be the place where retirees would go to play the slot machines while they whiled away their hours. However, it is now a much larger industry with all ages of adults coming to play the slot machines. The slot machine owners know that such a big industry is bound to be affected by the non smoking law, so they are taking steps to insure the comfort of their players.

They are now looking at ways to keep the slot machine players happy while still abiding by the law. One option is to have hand held slot machines that they can take with them when they go outside to smoke. The technology that they are looking at along with the hand held slot machine idea is a $3.5 billion industry.

Since roughly half of all slot machine players smoke, they know that it is in their best interest to find a way to keep everyone happy – including their bottom line. They are aware that slot machine usage dropped 15% in Scotland when smoking was banned there. According to the Bingo Association, at least five bingo/slot machine halls have gone out of business since the ban began.
