Crossroads Not
Worried About MD Slots
Whether or not Maryland decides to legalize slot machines is really of
no consequence to the Crossroads group. They are not concerned with
any sort of possibility at the moment of slot machines competing with
their business. They are waiting to see if they are awarded one of the
two stand alone slot machine casino licenses, and until they are they
just aren’t going to worry about it.
They are looking to build their slot machine casino near Gettysburg,
and if successful they know that they will tap a different market.
They think that they will pull slot machine players from Baltimore and
Washington D.C. David LaTorre, a spokesman for the developers of the
slot machine casino, says that they are in a class all of their own.
He thinks that because of the location of the proposed casino, they
are looking at a spot that is within an hour and a half drive of a
slot machine free metropolitan location.
However, some
think that they might want to give the slot machine issue a little
more attention, since Maryland has not ruled them out. The new
Governor coming in, Martin O’Malley has already stated that he wants
to see limited slot machines come in to the state. "His position has
always been if there are to be slots, only at racetracks and a limited
number," said Raquel Guillory, spokeswoman for O'Malley's office.
